Job description:

The role of Internal Auditor is to provide independent assurance that that the Company’s risk management, governance and internal control processes are operating effectively. It encompasses, but is not limited to, the examination and evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of the Organization’s governance, risk management, and internal controls as well as the quality of performance in carrying out assigned responsibilities to achieve the stated goals and objectives of the Organization.

Key responsibilities include: –

a) Preparation of Audit Plan and presentation to Senior Management and Board Audit and Risk Committee for review and approval.

b) Evaluating risk exposure relating to achievement of the organization’s strategic objectives.

c) Evaluating the reliability and integrity of information and the means used to identify measure, classify, and report such information.

d) Evaluating the systems established to ensure compliance with those policies, plans, procedures, laws, and regulations which could have a significant impact on the organization.

e) Evaluating the means of safeguarding assets and, as appropriate, verifying the existence of such assets.

f) Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency with which resources are employed.

g) Evaluating operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and goals and whether the operations or programs are being carried out as planned.

h) Monitoring and evaluating governance processes.

i) Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the organization’s credit risk management processes and controls

j) Reporting significant risk exposures and control issues, including fraud risks, governance issues, and other matters needed or requested by the Board.

k) Evaluating specific operations at the request of the Board or management, as appropriate.

l) Preparation and issuance of quarterly report to Board Audit and Risk Committee and where needed to Board of Directors. The internal audit report may include management’s response and corrective action taken or to be taken in regard to the specific findings and recommendations.

Qualifications, skills and experience

a) Academic and professional qualifications in Auditing or Accounting and a holder of CPA/ACCA.

b) Ten (7) years post-qualification experience in auditing preferably in banking or microfinance

institution.

c) Five (5) year’s relevant work experience in senior management role

d) Practical experience in use of relevant MS Office applications and accounting packages.

e) Good experience financial management, control and planning and administration

f) Strong problem solving, analytical skills and creativity

g) Excellent presentation, communication and personal effectiveness skills.

h) Ability to promote the value of internal audit among key employees within the Organization
